Here is the result of my final project at Lifeway Advanced Animation College. 5 months hard work on this minute of footage- seems a bit underwhelming to ponder- yet what I take with me are the skills and the experience of making it. And these are valuable.

I was involved in virtually every aspect from painting the blue screen, motion tracking, 3D, compositing, scripting render management across multiple machines, renderers, and operating systems. Challenges were met head-on, and you can see that the result is unique.

Here's the establishing shot, stereoscopic 1080P, for my final project. There are two more shots coming over the next month where I am combining bluescreen footage of an actress with dynamic cloth and hair. New Zealand never ceases to inspire me with its beauty, and I hope to make something that fascinates.

For an assignment here at Lifeway Advanced Animation College, I was required to take a photo and project it into a 3D environment. I took it a step further; I created an underwater environment, dynamic seaweed (see previous blogspot post), and rendered it in full HD 1080P stereoscopic.

Modular seaweed generator script using python and Maya's ncloth

In preparation for some underwater shots I was planning to do; I decided to make a seaweed generator script in Python utilizing Maya's nCloth. There were three requirements I had in mind.
- Had to be random. No two seaweeds should look the same.
- Had to be efficient. This was done by using wrap deformers, so the simulations were run using low-poly proxies.
- Had to be modular. So I can attach a stalk here, a leaf there, a branch there, and more parts to those.

Jorx's "jrxEdgeEater" fake displacement script

An ambitious idea, I got thinking to how one could fake displacement in post.
Arise, edgeEater! Using MEL in Maya and Nuke for some processing, below is a demonstration of how it works. If needed I could translate it into Python.

Here is the re-rendered 1080P stereoscopic version of my Maple Autumn. This is the award winning picture that got me into art galleries, and helped me fundraise for my dream of coming to New Zealand.

Zbrush advanced modeling/sculpting

'Sunspot' is a brazilian superhero by Marvel comics. We were required to choose a comicbook superhero and create them from scratch using Maya for topology modeling and Zbrush for sculpting. I learned heaps about anatomy, and realized how little I know! Of course if you look at the rest of my work you can see that character modeling isn't usually my thing. (making them look good is)
